British culture

Know all of this beautiful culture

how are british people seen

If there is one characteristic that defines the British, it is probably deadpan and seriousness. Crying in public is frowned upon in all but the most exceptional circumstances. The brave Brit prefers to stay calm and move on. or at least that is what many of the people believe but the reality is very different

how are the british really

Although if there was a time when most Britons were very serious and expressionless in the way they speak and communicate, they really are not like that today. Even one of the most important societies, Victorians were actually emotional and sentimental. crying in public is not seen as weakness and even Queen Victoria upon hearing the cheers and applause of the crowd for her accession to the throne in 1837, publicly burst into tears. showing us that many times we affirm things about cultures that are not really like that.

Things you need to know about the British people

The British are punctual.

Being late is strange and in some cases considered rude. If you are going to be late for something, you need to reach out. Also, it is less rude to be late for dinner at someone's house than to be late for a public meeting (such as dinner at a restaurant).

Please thank you and I'm sorry, these are normal parts of everyday conversations and interactions.

Some people are just baffled by how polite the British are. As tourists you may not be used to this, but you will probably get used to it quickly due to hearing it in many sentences and contexts

British people avoid extended eye contact

They find it uncomfortable and intimidating.

Never jump queues

In UK people may not be very happy with you and will definitely let you know how unhappy they are about the situation. Standing patiently in the queue is a normal part of British culture.

The British have a high amount of respect for older adults and the disabled

On public transports, you are expected to give up your seat if someone who is disabled or older comes onto the tram (or whatever vehicle you are in) and there is no other seat. If an older adult or someone who is disabled seems to be struggling with something, you are also expected to ask the person if they need your assistance.

British people rarely use superlatives and are not very animated when they speak.

They value privacy over everything else, so be careful what you ask because you could be prying without meaning to.

If you are invited to the home of a native British person, it is normal to bring along a gift

such as chocolate, wine, or flowers to say thank you  and is seen as a gesture of kindness and courtesy
