Sport has always had a very important role in the life of the English. Some sporting traditions go back centuries, but they have not lost their validity and fans for that.
Several modern sports were created in England during the 19th century, including cricket, rugby, field hockey, squash, tennis and badminton, and here are the 6 most popular English sports with a bit of their history . 


Football

It was in England that modern football began to take shape. In 1863, the first Football Association was founded in England. A series of meetings, organized by 'Ebenezer Cobb Morley', had the goal of creating a common set of rules so that clubs across the country could compete against each other. In England it is the most popular sport. as it has some of the biggest teams in the world such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and the culmination of the FA Cup (CUP) in May

Badminton

Badminton is a game in which two players hit a kind of feathered ball back and forth with rackets. The game was called "POONA" in India during the 18th century, and British Army officers brought the game to England in the 1860s. In 1887 the modern rules were established. The Bath Badminton Club was set up and standardized rules, which still guide the sport today. Also this sport is often related to royalty.

Golf

Golf was officially played in Scotland for the first time since 1502. as it was forbidden and most of the first references to golf in Scottish official records are to ban or condemn those who play it. The first mention is in Edinburgh on March 6, 1457, when King James II banned "golf" in an attempt to encourage the practice of archery, which was being forgotten.


Rowing

Rowing is a sport of speed and endurance. It appeared in England in the 19th century. In the beginning, rowing was a simple means of transportation in Egypt, Greece and Rome. Then it became a 17th century sport. Currently this sport attracts thousands of spectators especially in this country

Cricket

The first evidence of cricket to be played was recorded in the year 1550, by the alumni of the Royal Grammar School, The world's first cricket club was formed in Hambledon, England in the 1760s and the world famous Marylebone Cricket Club ( MCC) was founded in 1787. Unlike many English sports, cricket is not very popular outside of England but is played by many of its people

Tennis

The game was invented in 1859 by Commander Thomas Harry Gem, a lawyer, who lived in Birmingham bouncing a ball with a racket in the grass. and I call it 'ball'. England is fortunate to have one of the biggest tennis tournaments in the world - Wimbledon, which takes place in June, at a time when the overall weather is better in England.
